Comprehensive service
The software update service is carried out routinely every 14 days. Critical security updates are implemented immediately. Whenever an update is carried out, you receive an email with a report, listing detailed information about all updates carried out. The following services** are included in the software update service:
- System package update
- Security update in case of acute security vulnerability
- Regular checking interval
- Utilization of a rebootless kernel module
- Regular update reports
The updates fix known security gaps or remove bugs in the current versions. The software update service does not include upgrades to new versions. The contract period of the software update service is coupled to the contract period of the server.
If you have already booked your server solution and would like to book the software update service in addition at a later stage, your server sysem is first checked to make sure that it meets the requirements necessary for use with SUS. If necessary, the adjustment of the system can be ordered as a special service.

** In case of serious system changes by the customer (e.g. version upgrades, changes to the network configuration etc.), InterNetX can no longer guarantee the full scope of the software update service. It is therefore in the customer's own interest to actively inform InterNetX about such changes to the system. If the necessary scope of the software update service is partially reduced due to such changes, the service will, however, not be suspended.
Optimal use of software update service (SUS)
A linux distribution based on Red Hat, like CentOS or RHEL is required for the software update service. If your system is not based on CentOS or Red Hat, the InterNetX technical team will first undertake an evaluation of your system before it can be used in combination with SUS.
If necessary, your system can be adapted to meet the requirements. This includes removing 3rd party repositories as well as the inspection of the general system condition. The standardization of the system for the software update service is carried out by the technical experts at InterNetX and must be ordered separately.
The InterNetX recommendation
InterNetX recommends using the software update service with a Red Hat distribution. As Red Hat publishes updates quickly and these are implemented promptly, increased server security and stability can be guaranteed.
SUS update versions
The following versions CentOS or Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5/6 are supported by the software update service.

The listed versions do not change throughout the lifetime of the release. This form of system maintenance almost completely guarantees the compatibility of the updates. Changes to APIs or program syntax do not take place.
