The widely scattered islands of The Federated State of Micronesia lie in the Western Pacific Ocean, roughly 3000 km north of eastern Australia. It comprises 4 island states, namely Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei and Kosrae and is made up of over 600 islands. Although the island surface area is small, the islands take up over 2,5 million sq km of ocean. The geographic isolation makes economic growth difficult, with fishing, agriculture and tourism being the most promising sectors. Idyllic beaches, coral atolls and blue waters make it a top diving spot.
