Frankfurt Galaxy is one of the best-known names in football: the Frankfurt American football team was a founding member of the World League of American Football (WLAF) and the NFL Europe, the European offshoot of the US-based National Football League (NFL), in 1991 and was probably the most successful team in Europe before the NFL Europe was disbanded after the 2007 season. Frankfurt Galaxy plays in the new European League of Football (ELF), which started its first season in 2021 with eight teams and finished with Frankfurt Galaxy as the 1st champion.
The financial centre Frankfurt was chosen as a strategically important location, which is both in the heart of Europe and also home to the registry of .de, one of the most important domain extensions in the world.
